Love When You Fo-orce Breaks

Vicente Soria de Veyra was a intermittent drop-out from top universities in the Philippines – UP Visayas, UP Manila and Silliman University in Dumaguete City. Despite this, he is a famous writer of short stories and poems in Leyte, a contributor for National Midweek and a stage director for plays of exotic and socio-political subjects. The poem basically tells the readers that when you force love to happen, it breaks. This also has a remarkable structure as it compliments the title of the poem; the lines in the poem are actually broken. The poem is meaningful to me because it speaks of the the consequence that may happen when love gets so intense.

LOVE WHEN YOU FO-ORCE BREAKS
Vicente Soria de Veyra

If we’re to wait for lov-
e or death, then fate is,
nice to every human. Lif-
e is wet on rainy days a-
nd quickly dries, summ-
ers/Try and burn your
valentine and then,
define your ever-
y dinner. Lo-
ve is wet
in rain
y walks
and love;
is dry in si-
lver-dower : it’s
best when love is li-
fe itself, as weak in bo-
ne as every chowder. As tr-
uly fine shall be its tast-
e, if not its every savour.
Life is good if we can wait
before our time is over, for
then you’ll see your eve-
ry walk as part of time’s d-
esires in glasses’ bowers.

the poem's form to me has a hidden meaning... it's the cycle of love... it's the ups and downs of love..

I love this poem and how it speaks of the subject in so many ways. Its structure and how some words were broken down into two say a lot. It is true that we should not force love, but when will we know when to fight for it? Some of us may not be so lucky as to end up with fairytale love stories. I think that "forcing" it if need be is one of the greatest manifestations of the power of love (however, there are also certain boundaries which we must not go beyond). Also, I believe that love is one of the most worthwhile adventures we will ever take in our lives. This means that finding the one person we are going to spend the rest of our lives with would be worth all the emotional turmoil that love brings. It is only a matter of selecting when investing so much would be a smart choice.

i was attracted by the structure or the poem, but i realized it was a bit hard to read. it speaks of how love should be given ample space and time to grow, or else it will fail, hence, the title:)
